Miss Sporty Metal Flip Nail Polish | Aurora Borealis

Miss Sporty Metal Flip Nail Polish £1.99
After reviewing the Miss Sporty Transformers Sparkle Touch nail polish (here) and being considerably underwhelmed by it, I decided to give the Miss Sporty nail polishes another go, as they're very cheap at £1.99 each and readily available. I bought two 'Last Chance Saloon' polishes from the Metal Flip range as they looked like incredible dupes for the Beetlejuice range from Models Own. I bought Aurora Borealis and Beetlewings. Annoyingly, the bottles don't have names on them.. they only have numbers. I only found their true names by looking on the Miss Sporty website. I really liked the Beetlejuice range from Models Own so I hoped these would be good, as they're more than half the price. Aurora Borealis is extremely similar in the bottle as Aqua Violet.

The Miss Sporty websites description of these polishes is; "According to the lighting, the colour of your nails changes for a breathtaking metal flip effect". Sounds exciting huh? Well it's not to put it bluntly.

If you take a look at the pictures above, I've tried to show you the different stages of application. It took a massive four coats of this polish to get a fully opaque non streaky finish. I don't think I've ever used a polish which was such hard work? Picture one is showing what one coat looks like on the nails.. you can see how watery, and thin the polish is as you can see my nail tips clearly. Picture 2 is with three coats on,  it might not translate well in the picture but it's not fully opaque and quite patchy. Picture 3 shows the end product, with 4 coats of the polish- and no topcoat.
Picture 4 shows the colour of the bottle, and the colour of the polish. I'm so disappointed with Miss Sporty nail polishes now, with this being the second complete let down! The polish in the bottle does look multi-toned like the description... but none of this translates onto the nail? The end colour is just a one dimensional shimmery lilac colour, which is pretty enough.. but not what I bought. I have looked my finished nails in a variety of different lights, and there is no 'metal-flip' effect whatsoever. It's just one colour.

Granted, these polishes retail for only £1.99 so maybe I am expecting too much? I personally don't see how they're able to make false promises about their products? It's not fair when the consumer is spending money on their products and expecting what they read on the packaging/website to be true? I couldn't recommend these polishes to anyone. Ignoring the whole colour/finish side of the review... the polish doesn't wear very well, with chipping within a day (without a topcoat).

I hate writing such a negative review.. but I think it's important to be honest, especially when people are going to spend their money on these products.

  2. I'm not a fan, I bought a black Miss Sporty polish from Superdrug about 5 years ago. It was a sticky mess. Wouldn't apply, basically dried the moment you touched the brush to the nail. Horrible! It does feel bad saying negative things but I love to read honest reviews of products. Their Polishes are bad. It shouldn't matter wether you paid £2 or £20, you paid the price they charge for a product they claim does more than it does.
    Great post :) xx

    1. I was in two minds whether I should post this or not... I've never come across such poor quality polishes. I bought more in the hope I'd be converted, but I wouldn't recommend their polishes to anyone! xx

  3. I find this all the time with miss sporty polishes, In the bottles they look amazing but on the nail they just aren't, their formulas are all different some dry too quick and other take forever and some don't dry at all! I wouldn't bother purchasing more to be honest!

    1. I'm so pleased I'm not the only one who has come across this problem. They do look amazing in the bottle, I just think it's unacceptable to mislead people as much as they do. Especially when they market their range to children/teenagers who have limited money.. it's so disappointing. xx

  4. Love the beautiful iridescence in this! but if the polish looks the same on nails(as the color in the bottle) it would have been great.

  7. 4 coats is so disappointing - especially when there are such great and inexpensive nail polish brands out there these days xo

  8. 4 coats is always such a massive effort, even if it's an affordable polish, there are so many other affordable brands that make really good quality polishes! Great review lovely, it's always good to know which products to avoid!
